INCOMING 8TH GRADE STUDENTS:
Salvete, omnes! I was proud of your progress last year, both in terms of your comfort with Latin, and your increased maturity as scholars. I am eagerly looking forward to working with this great class this year, and helping to grow your enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, Latin and the Classics.
INCOMING 7TH GRADE STUDENTS:
Salvete omnes! Welcome to the world of Latin and the Romans! You will find our curriculum at Stony Brook exciting and mind-stretching! It includes a rigorous (and fun) approach to learning Latin through stories about a Pompeian family in the year of the massive eruption of Vesuvius, and enrichment in terms of Classical culture, history and mythology - as well as the living legacy of the Romans.
INCOMING FLEX STUDENTS
Stony Brook has the privilege to offer incoming 6th graders the wonderful opportunity to experience four world languages - French, German, Latin, and Spanish. During your nine weeks of Latin, you will learn elementary Latin with Minimus, a Roman mouse living in Ancient Britain (my own home country), and through reading Classical myths in Latin. You will also enjoy glimpses of Roman culture and history through hands-on and computer lab projects. Check out our 6th Grade Forum (link above) for a PowerPoint outlining curriculum, class and homework codes, daily activities and homework, as well as links to fun and useful websites.
