"To succeed we must first believe we can."
-Michael Korda
Academic Coaching and Transitional Skills (1st half year of 6th Grade) are classes for students who may need extra time and/or assistance to complete and/or comprehend instruction in their core classes. Also, students who may need help with organizing and prioritizing work and materials will receive assistance on these skills as well. Study Skills techniques are discussed and incorporated into what students are currently learning in their core classes.
To get the most from these classes, students should come prepared with work, questions and materials. The most successful of the students in these classes, attempt their work first and then come with specific questions as they are learning the material (not the day before the test).
Below are a few ways to achieve success:
Be Organized:
-Use your Agenda Book and Homework Website:
Make it a habit to open your agenda book at the beginning of each class and write down the assignment.
Use it at the end of the school day to decide what materials need to be brought home.
Use it at home to prioritize homework and make sure all work is complete.
Use it to plan out long term assignments.
Use the Homework Website to double check or when you are unsure of the homework.
-Organize class binders in a system assigned by the teacher or one that works for you:
Date all papers completed in and out of class so that organization in the binders is easy.
File papers in binders frequently.
Take the time to clean out your binder, but hold on to any important papers.
Ask for my assistance to get organized before it is too late.
Complete Homework:
Homework is used as practice and reinforces what students learn in their classroom.
Homework should be a top priority at home.
set aside time specifically for homework
have a quiet area away from distractions
Manage your time:
Students are busy after school, whether it is a sport, instrument or volunteering.
Set up a schedule where you can show both your social and educational activities (homework and study time).
Plan out long term assignments and keep up with them.
Be Alert & Ask Questions:
Do not be afraid to ask teachers questions about anything that may seem unclear.
A secret about teachers: We love students who ask questions! This shows us that you care and we want to help you more!
Below are team websites which include homework assigments. Included below these are other websites that are may be helpful while doing homework.
