STONY BROOK AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Stony Brook After School Activities 2009-2010
There is a one-time $50 activity fee for all students participating in after school activities. Students can participate in just one club or several clubs for the $50. This money will allow us to run a full schedule of after school programs. Checks should be made payable to 'Westford Public Schools'. Please include your child's name and homeroom on the check.
All afterschool activities end at 3:05 p.m. Students can either take the late bus home or be picked up by 3:05 p.m.
ANIME CLUB is open to all students regardless of their abilities. Anime Club will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month after school. (Mrs. Ewing)
ART CLUB is open to all students. We will work on a different art project every time we meet. See Ms. Morris in the art room for more details.
CHESS CLUB is open to all students regardless of their playing abilities, from the novice to the most experienced. If you do not know how to play and would like to learn, come to the chess club. Check the web page for the next meeting. New players will be taught proper moves and game strategy. Students play against opponents of similar ability. Chess club will meet on Wednesday Feb. 10, Mar. 3, Mar. 17, Mar. 31, Apr. 14, May 5 and May 15th. (Mr. Curran)
COMPUTER CLUB ~ will meet approximately three Tuesdays a month starting October 13th in Room A227 (Second floor computer lab). There is no prior knowledge necessary to be involved. There are 26 computers. This is a “drop-in” program. Every other week will be game week. Come see what is available and have some techno-fun. Meeting dates are Oct. 13, 20, 27; Nov. 3, 10, 17; Dec. 1, 8, 15; Jan. 12, 19, 26, Feb. 2, 9; March 2, 16, 23, 30; April 6 and 13 (Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Rowe)
DANCE, DANCE REVOLUTION (DDR) CLUB ~ This is a drop-in club that starts on Tuesday, October 13th. We will meet in the second floor common room. Dance, Dance Revolution will be using the Play Station system with two dance pads. Compete against your friends. The following games will also be played UNO card game, Memory game, Checkers, Trouble, and other fun games. Stop by and have some fun and get a little exercise showing us your DDR moves. Meeting dates are Oct. 13, 20, 27; Nov. 3, 10, 17; Dec. 1, 8, 15; Jan. 12, 26; Feb. 9; March 16, 30; and April 13 (Mrs. McAveeney & Mrs. Bigda)
FANTASY GAME CLUB ~ Have you ever imagined you were a knight saving the kingdom from a dragon, or a powerful wizard able to cast magical spells? Have you ever wanted to be a soldier from the future flying spaceships and defending your planet from alien invasions, a superhero, or a pilgrim settler on a new continent living off the land? If so, the Fantasy Game Club might be just the thing for you! Fantasy Club’s first meeting will be held on Thursday, October 1st. All other meetings will be held on alternating Wednesdays starting Oct. 14, 28; Dec. 9, 23; Jan. 6, 20; Feb. 3; March 3, 17, 31; April 14, 28; May 12, 26; June 9 in Room 317 with Mrs. Baldwin.
FRENCH-ITALIAN CLUB ~ Bonjour! Ciao! The French-Italian club is open to all 7th and 8th grade students willing to practice their French and also add basic Italian conversation. The club meets on Tuesdays after school in room B205 (Mme Albu). We will have fun with French and Italian music, films, food, games and more!
GERMAN CLUB ~ This is a chance for students to
experience German culture in an informal setting. We will have fun together with German games, songs, food, crafts and more. German club will meet in room B204. Check the school web site for the next meeting. (Frau Joyce)
KNITTING CLUB ~ The purpose of the Knitting Club is for students to be given the opportunity to explore the craft of knitting while increasing their self-esteem and independent skills. The club meets on Wednesday afternoon in room B215. This group includes beginning knitter to the more experienced knitter. There are no assigned projects. There are many suggested projects as well as a long-term service project. Last year our group knitted squares and assisted with blankets for the Hearts to Hands project in which blankets were assembled and sent to the needy in Africa. (Ms. Morris)
MATHCOUNTS/AMC8 CLUB ~ The Westford Middle School Math Counts/AMC8 Club will meet on Tuesdays beginning September 15th. the AMC 8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. Four students will form Stony Brook School Team to compete in Chapter level. Another four students will compete as individuals. A total of eight students will be chosen after the school competition. Interested students in grades 6, 7 and 8 are asked to email Ms. Lynn Kong (yk_19610@yahoo.com, 978-392-0975) to sign up and ask questions. Practices will be every Tuesday right after school.
MATH TEAM ~ The Westford Middle School Math Team will meet on Thursdays. Blanchard and Stony Brook will be sending one team to compete in the Intermediate Math League of Eastern Massachusetts. The math team will be for students in grades 7 and 8. (Mrs. Rowe and Ms. Dombrowski)
PANTHER PRINTS NEWSPAPER CLUB ~ Stony Brook Newspaper, Panther Paws, will be published three or four times during the school year. If you enjoy writing and/or investigative reporting, please join us in room A206. Do you like cartooning or creating horoscopes - come with your ideas to make the school newspaper fun and informative for all readers. Meeting reminders will be given during morning announcements. We hope to see all potential writers, artists, and photographers. Newspaper Club will meet Nov. 3, 17; Dec. 1, 15; Jan. 5, 19; Feb. 2, 23; Mar. 9, 23; Apr. 6, 27; May 11, 18; and June 1. PANTHER SPORTS CLUB ~ Beginning Tuesday, December 1st, PANTHER SPORTS CLUB will meet after school 2 days per week, usually Tuesday and Thursday. Students will be able to take the late bus home. Come dressed to have a workout and some fun. We will meet indoors and/or outdoors with a variety of games and activities. Panther Sports Club takes place Dec. 1, 2, 8, 10, 15, 22; Jan. 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26; Feb. 2, 4, 9, 11, 23, 25; Mar. 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 23 and 25.
SKI CLUB ~ The last day of ski club will be Wednesday, February 10th. (Mrs. Bourdeau)
SPANISH CLUB ~ The focus of the Spanish Club will be to allow students to explore the language and culture through activities and possible field trips. Enhancement of spoken language skills will be encouraged. The club will meet once a month, on the first Thursday of the month in Room 215. The advisor in Ms. Kristin Morris. Nos vemos!
SPEECH AND DEBATE ~ The Stony Brook Speech and Debate Club is for any student wishing to learn how to speak in front of people and also learn how to participate in a debate should stop by. The Speech and Debate Club meets every other Wednesday in room 309. (Mr. Curran)
WOODWORKING ~ The afterschool woodworking club will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from February to March. Students can sign up for either a Tuesday or Wednesday, but not both days. Only 20 students per session will be allowed. A second session will be offered if more than 40 students sign up. This year’s project will be a TV/end table. The second session of woodworking has started this week. See Mr. Desmond with any questions.
