Welcome to Mrs. Coty's Developmental Reading Class

book_worm.gif

The ultimate goal of Developmental Reading is to develop life-long readers.

The philosophy behind this class is to allow students to daily spend an extended amount of time reading authentic texts that interest them. While using a Reading Workshop format, students will explore a variety of genres and learn comprehension and word-solving strategies as they develop fluency in reading.

                        The Reading Workshop block usually includes:
                                         *a focused mini lesson (comprehension strategies,
                                           word-solving strategies, fluency instruction}
                                         *a work time (independent reading/conferring,
                                            guided reading, writing in response to reading)
                                         *a five-minute wrap up (debriefing from the work time)
