Abigail DeAngelo - Teaching Assistant
Ms. Campbell - 8th Grade Gold Team Social Studies
Alyssa Campbell is extremely excited to be continuing her teaching career at the Stony Brook School, this time as the Social Studies teacher for 8 Gold. For the past year, Alyssa was the Academic Coach for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Alyssa graduated from UMASS Amherst in 2007 with a History Major. She is looking forward to bringing her knowledge and passion of History into her classroom. Alyssa will also continue her position as one of the coaches for the Cross Country Team, while she also trains for a half marathon in October.
Mrs. Carter - Principal's Aide
Most recently Sandy Carter has been a stay at home Mom with her two young children. They are now moving into the Nabnasset and Abbot schools allowing Sandy to resume a career. Prior to being at home with her children, Sandy worked as a Project Manager for IBM. Her 16 years experience with IBM has taught her patience and the ability to be flexible in working with many types of people across many organizations. Sandy keeps busy doing the book keeping for their Electrical Contracting business, volunteering within her children's classes and enjoying her family. She is looking forward to working within the Westford Public School system and with the children of the Stony Brook middle school.
Ms. Davis - Special Education
Jillian Davis is thrilled to join the Stony Brook community. She has enjoyed every moment of teaching special education at a private school for the past 3 years and is really looking forward to teaching at Stony Brook in September. Jillian received her Bachelor's degree from UMass Dartmouth and recently finished her Master's at Simmons College with a degree in Education: Severe Disabilities. When Jillian isn't at school, she loves to enjoy the outdoors, cook, and visit family and friends. Jillian is looking forward to getting to know Stony Brook's students and faculty.
Mrs. Nelson - 8th Grade Gold Team Interim Math
Pamela Nelson is looking forward to teaching math at Stony Brook this year. She taught 6th grade math, language arts and science in Pennsylvania for 6 years before moving to Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, she taught 6th grade math, language arts and social studies in Andover for one year and 7th grade math for two years. In 2001 she stopped teaching to stay home and have a family. She has a son, Ethan, who is 7 and a daughter, Sarah, who is 6. She took an amazing two week trip this summer to Italy, Turkey and Greece. Now she is looking forward to teaching 8th grade.
Mr. Nilsen - Guidance Counselor
Mr. Nilsen rejoins the guidance team as counselor for the sixth grade class at Stony Brook School. He left the position at the end of the 2007-2008 school year, after three years of service, to pursue a family move to North Carolina. This relocation, however, proved to be temporary and he returned to the area where he filled an Interim Guidance Counselor position at Westford Academy in the Fall of 2008. Mr. Nilsen earned his Master of Education in School Counseling at Suffolk University and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the State University of Albany. His previous work experience includes various positions at Perkins School for the Blind and Franciscan Childrenís Hospital. Mr. Nilsen is thrilled to return to Westford and is delighted to continue working with the entire community at Stony Brook
School. He looks forward to a successful, healthy, and fun-filled school year.
Mrs. Peternell - Academic Coach
Alison Peternell is excited to be the Academic Coach at Stony Brook Middle School. With a Masters in Education, Mrs. Peternell taught a variety of grades and special education for seven years before she took time off from teaching to raise her family. For the past three years she has taken many classes, been a long-term sub, a math resource facilitator and then an interim teacher in Westford. She is particularly excited about her role as Academic Coach because she enjoys organizing just about anything or anyone and canít wait to dive deeper into all subject areas, especially math. When not teaching or keeping her own three children on track, Mrs. Peternell enjoys running and biking with friends and family.
Mrs. Stanvick - Assistant Principal
With fifteen years of teaching experience, Mrs. Stanvick, is the new assistant principal at Stony Brook. She has taught in Vermont, Andover, and here in Westford. Mrs. Stanvick earned her Masters degree in reading and Language before earning a Certicfiacte of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Stanvick is the proud mother of three children. Some of our students may remember Mrs. Stanvick from the Abbot School where she was a classroom teacher. Mrs. Stanvick is looking forward to working with the staff, students, and parents of Stony Brook.
Ms. Sterr - 8th Grade Silver Team Language Arts & Social Studies
Ms. Sterr joins the Stony Brook community as the new 8 Silver Social Studies/Language Arts teacher. After several years in the film industry, making feature films and documentaries, Ms. Sterr decided to follow her true passion: teaching. She enjoys history and reading the most, and is thrilled that at Stony Brook, she and her students will be experiencing plenty of both! She also loves to hike and run with her dog, cook elaborate food creations, travel the world, and meet new people.
Ms. York - Teaching Assistant
Ms. York moved to Westford last year from her hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan and is very excited be here. She graduated from Taylor University with a degree in Psychology in 2008, and have been working as a Residential Counselor in a home for girls for the past year. Ms. York is very much looking forward to being at Stony Brook and meeting all the students and faculty! In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Zambarano - Special Education
Bev Zambarano will be the new 6th grade Special Education teacher on the Maroon Team. She received her BA in History from Dartmouth College and her Master’s in Elementary and Special Education from Lesley University. She has taught Special Education in both the Westborough and Leominster Middle Schools. While an at-home mom for many years, she maintained her teaching skills and taught skiing at Nashoba Valley for three years and Suzuki Piano for five years. She is an avid runner and biker and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with her husband and three children. She and her family recently completed a 5-week, cross-country trip including stops in over ten national parks. She is excited about joining the Stony Brook family and is looking forward to meeting her new colleagues and
students.
