Congratulations to the Graduating Senior Class of 2017!!!
It was just a few short years ago, whether it felt endless or not, that these students were transitioning from Middle School to High School. We offer our best wishes and hopes for their future as they begin a brand new journey.
In just a two weeks, we will be celebrating our 8th graders as they leave us for their next adventure. Between our awards assembly, field day and the 8th grade dance the last few days of school will be full of events. On Monday, June 19th we will have an awards assembly for the 8th grade in our auditorium. If your child is receiving one of the specific content area awards, you will receive an invitation with the time of the ceremony in the event that any immediate family members would like to attend. As our student population is very large, we must limit the number of guests in our building so only those parents notified in advance that their child is receiving an individual award will be allowed to attend. Tuesday, June 20th our 8th graders will participate in their Field Day which has become a great
tradition for their last full day together. On the evening of June 20th, the WMSPTO sponsors a wonderful celebration dance here at Stony Brook for the 8th graders from both middle schools. PLEASE SEE the notice at the end of this email to access the permission slip form for the dance!
Additional things to celebrate as we near the end of the school year:
Earlier in the spring, 11 members of the Stony Brook Latin Club participated in the MA Junior Classics League. It is a weekend long competition with events ranging from Academic Tests to Olympic contests. The following students placed in the top five in their respective categories: Academic Tests (Alpana B., Richa J., Ankita A., Katie S.) Creative Arts (Torsten U., Alpana B., Margaret L., Katie S., Matt M.) Graphic Arts (Ankita A., Richa J., Torsten U., Amy J., Margaret L., Alphana B.) Athletics-swimming (Ankita A. & Amy J.)
On May 17, two Stony Brook 8th Graders, Meredith W. and Torsten U., were honored as Scholar Leaders at the New England League of Middle Schools Awards Banquet. They were nominated by their teacher for their leadership, integrity, academic achievement, and overall positive contributions to our school environment.
Recently, the Stony Brook Theater Arts were notified that their fall production of "Into the Woods" was nominated for five Massachusetts Educational Theater Awards. Best Leading Actor: Alex R., Best Leading Actress: Cordelia R., Best Acting Ensemble, Best Set Design and Execution, and Best Sound Design and Execution. Alex and Cordelia will have the opportunity of performing with the other nominees in their categories on the Cutler Majestic Stage in Boston during the awards ceremony later in the month.
On June 1st, Stony Brook was honoreed as a School of TechXcellence for our focused work on establishing our Innovation Lab and allowing it to support the continued work of developing Stony Brook School as a maker-centered learning environment. We were recongnized along with a handful of other schools throughout the country. Ms. Nicole Smith, our librarian, has done a tremendous job getting our Innovation Lab started and championing students' ability to access our this excitiing opportunity. WESTFORD ACADEMY FALL SPORTS 2017 INFORMATION
Greetings Prospective Westford Academy Student Athletes and Parents,
Welcome to Grey Ghost Athletics! The Westford Academy athletic program is one of the largest and most extensive sport offerings in Massachusetts with over 1,300 athletic opportunities throughout the year. In addition, the Grey Ghosts compete in the Dual County League that consists of many of the top programs/teams in the state and in the top divisions of MIAA Tournament.
The interscholastic athletic experience here is a commitment. During the season, varsity programs compete or practice six days a week and varsity teams can expect to participate on weekends and over vacations. Freshmen and Junior varsity teams at a minimum will participate five days a week. Most JV teams will participate 6 days a week during the season. This includes all vacations. In addition to developing sport skills, this high level of commitment by the students will foster the growth of the positive values associated with interscholastic athletics.
Recently, Westford Academy fall season coaches, captains and I visited Stony Brook Middle School to share information about the upcoming fall 2017 season with the current 8th graders. Students were given the opportunity to “sign up” for a sport. This visit was for fall sports only because the season begins before the school year starts. Winter and spring programs have informational meetings during the school year that students may attend.
For more information and for information on how to register for fall sports please visit www.wagreyghosts.com . Students must have a current physical and a completed online registration process in order to participate on the 1st day of tryouts/practice.

8th Grade Celebration:
The Permission Slip is attached! No child will be allowed into the party without a completed permission slip.
We are still seeking volunteers!
We continue to seek volunteers to help with the 8th Grade Celebration - we have almost 500 eighth graders that we will be hosting and we need all the help we can get. This event is a lot of fun and a lot of work if we don't get help running it. Please click here or contact Karen Wilson
(firstname.lastname@example.org) for volunteer opportunities.
Join the WMSPTO: We have several open positions for the 2017-2018 school year!
As our 8th graders move on the Westford Academy, so do their wonderful parents who have helped us over the past several years in various capacities. We are seeking new members to fill the roles of Events Co-Chairpersons, Publicity Chairperson, Website Chairperson and Arts & Education Programming Chairpersons. The sign-up contains position descriptions and the opportunity to indicate which position you are interested in. If you have questions, please email us at email@example.com or visit http://mspto.webs.com/ for more information.
