Business as usual...update!
I shared the following sentiments with the students prior to dismissal today.  As we head into this weekend earlier than normal, it is very important to remember why we pause from our normal school activities and cancel school in recognition of Veterans' Day.  Tomorrow, rather than business as usual, we stay with our families and join others in our community in setting aside a specific day to honor and thank our Veterans. Many of them have made selfless sacrifices so that we have not had to experience the Nightmares of War directly. They have served so that we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted. It is our responsibility to take care of our veterans and support them in their need and honor them for the heroic service they have contributed. ¬†Setting aside one day is a start, but certainly not enough. This afternoon, we challenged the students to spend more time learning about the individuals in their lives and around them who have served our country.  We must all listen to their stories so that we can best understand their sacrifices and do our part to continue to support them for their dedication and service in protecting all of us. When that is our business as usual, we will be moving in the right direction. ¬†

If you don't have plans yet for tonight's dinner, Bamboo Restaurant is sponsoring a fundraising event for our 8th Grade Washington DC Trip TODAY (the fundraiser is today not the trip) from 11:30 to 9:45 (that would be a really quick trip to DC).  During the event, mention Stony Brook and 20% of the proceeds will be donated to our scholarship fund to help support students in need of financial assistance in order to participate (on the trip...not the fundraiser).   The fundraising is good for dine-in and or take-out!

Finally, I received a nice email from retired Day School Principal Mr. Regan asking us to share information about the Day School efforts to build a new playground.  As many of you had children attend Day School in their earlier years, I thought you might like to know about opportunities to help them in these efforts:
